Education, right?

Here ever creed and race find an equal place.
The business of schools is to help students learn but the purpose of schools has been a long standing debate. Whatever the answer— the reality is that schools all over the world are and have become diverse places where one of the factors contributing to this is the issue of
integrating migrant children. Admittedly, this presents challenges for educators, migrant
children and migrant families. The inclusion of migrant children in the education system highlights issues revealing flaws in teacher training and education, assessment (screening and evaluation), unfamiliarity with legislation, multicultural education issues, and flaws in institutional policy and decision making.

According to NCLD.org, (2022) students are faced with underprepared, ineffective teachers [who are] untrained and under supported. Since teachers play an important role in identifying struggling students and recognizing learning disabilities (Grigorenko et al., 2020) then teacher selection, training and education became crucial facets in the educational community as human structural elements and in realizing the educational ideology and activity of schools. This requires a cultivation of the basic learning skill of the educational community, i.e. realizing one’s identity and how to be open to others.

The recommendation for teachers who struggle with diversity inclusion should focus on staff training in complaints procedure, multicultural education and recognizing learning disabilities; legislation, active listening, mediation, observation, recording and reporting skills, instituting/ review of a complaints procedure, scheduled parent’s meeting in formalized school calendar, professional development to strengthen pedagogy, providing an effective school improvement team, decentralizing and shared decision making. This will culminate in education, as a human right, serving as a means of empowerment for all stakeholders.
